Combat Loneliness with Creativity

Vibrance, community, connection—these feelings are what so many of us are grieving in the recent loss of normality. For the sake of transparency, COVID-19 and its accompanying detriment has been a heavy burden on our team. We know we’re not the only ones who feel an overwhelming need for humanity in this newfound sense of loneliness. With tour cancellations and every creative small business closing their doors, we need art now more than ever.

As a studio with team members who rely heavily on the arts to maintain good physical and mental health, we thought we’d share a few ways we’re combating loneliness with creativity.

Pick up a Book… or Listen to One!

Use this time to dive into a new book, or maybe finish one you started a while ago. You finally have the time to curl up on the couch with a cozy blanket and good book you’ve been meaning to read. If you would rather listen to audiobooks, grab your head phones and check out either Amazon Prime or Audible to choose a new read. Or, try out podcasts! No matter what you’re interested in—sports, politics, murder mysteries, comedy or romance—there’s an option for everyone.

Create Art with a New Medium

Tap into your creative side by testing out different mediums for art. Edit together a highlight video of your favorite moments using iMovie or Adobe Premiere Pro (you can get a free trial). Use the voice memos app on your phone to start a podcast of your own, or verbalize lyrics you’ve always wanted to turn into melodies. Maybe even test out all the neat features that your iPhone or Android camera has to offer. Snap some professional photos of your pets at home and turn them into models!

Netflix with Friends

Start a Netflix Party! Miss hanging out with your friends and binging Netflix together? They’ve got you covered. Netflix Party is a downloadable extension of google chrome. You just copy and paste the link to your friends and you can watch movies simultaneously while chatting in a group message!

DIY Crafts

Break out the tool kits and paint brushes—it's time to DIY. You know that project you’ve been thinking about starting? Do it! Repaint your bedroom walls, dresser, or coffee table. Create a scrapbook of your year so far, or of a special trip/vacation. Tie dye an old t-shirt or sweatshirt. Search for a cool coloring sheet online, print it out and color away! Maybe take up knitting or sewing while you’re at it and fix buttons on shirts or unwanted holes you have in clothes.

Relaxation and Self Care

Lastly, and most importantly, relax and take care of yourself. It is completely okay to use this time to rest and rejuvenate from your busy, everyday life. Take a bath or hot shower, lay on the couch and watch movies, or take a nap. It’s also important to make sure you are getting your daily Vitamin C, fresh air, and exercise. Take a walk outside or follow along with a workout/yoga video from your living room. We are all in this together.

Whether you choose to enhance your productivity or take this time to just exist, we’re here for you. Shoot us a DM if we can help out with anything in the meantime, or just to chat.
